Apple Announces the iPhone 7

Mobile Outfitters

Each year the internet (and Apple) is plagued by rumors about the newest iPhone. The brand has a massive worldwide following, so speculation is often rampant throughout the lead-up to the next-gen product’s reveal. Usually, Apple announces the next version of the phone around September and follows a “tick-tock” schedule. A “tick” year is a relatively large product update (think the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus), followed by a “tock” year of smaller upgrades and performance enhancements (think the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus).

This year is a “tick” year, as Tim Cook announced the iPhone 7 today at Apple’s special event in San Francisco. The iPhone 7, like the iPhone 6, is offered in a 4.7-inch version and a 5.5-inch Plus version. It is available for preorder on September 9, and will be released publicly on September 16. Among some of its new features are an improved camera and an upgraded processor.

One of the most controversial changes made to the phone by Apple, however, is the removal of the headphone jack. Headphones will now connect through the lightning port or wirelessly. This change has been met with varied response. Some claim that lightning headphones will improve audio quality, while others argue that lightning headphones will prevent the device from being charged while in use and that bluetooth sound quality is not as good as sound coming from the 3.5mm headphone jack. Apple claims the reasoning behind the move is to allow for more features on a smaller phone and to move the world forward to a completely wireless future. The company also announced AirPods headphones, which connect via Apple’s proprietary W1 chip, as a companion to the new iPhone and other Apple products.

Other key features of the iPhone 7 include:

  • Four-core A10 Fusion processor
  • Retina HD Display with improved 3D Touch sensor
  • 32GB, 128GB, and 256GB storage tiers will replace the former 16GB, 64GB, and 128GB tiers
  • Two 12MP cameras on the iPhone 7 Plus, one wide angle lens and one telephoto lens that can zoom up to 10x
  • Quad-LED True Tone Flash on both cameras
  • 7MP Facetime camera, up from 5MP
  • Stereo speakers that are 2x louder than last year’s model
  • Lighting EarPods and a Lightning headphone adaptor included
  • IP67 water resistance and dust resistance
  • Improved battery life that lasts at least 2 hours longer than iPhone 6
  • Force sensitive home button with Taptic feedback
  • Space Gray color option replaced by Jet Black and Black

As with any phone, people will inevitably drop the new iPhone. And with a slightly slimmer body due to the removal of the headphone jack, it will be a bit harder to hold onto in those “my hands are full” situations. But Mobile Outfitters already has access to Clear-Coat and Style Skins designs for the iPhone 7, thanks to RapidCut. That means you can immediately have your brand new phone professionally fitted with one of the strongest, most scratch-resistant, 360-degree protection screen protectors on the market. No waiting to find a screen protector that fits and taking the chance on a drop. You’ll keep your phone safe from day one.
